Border Therapy Services is proud to offer some of the best sports injury treatment in El Paso, Texas. One at-home method that we use to supplement our in-office therapy is the R.I.C.E. method.
Our team knows that one of the most important parts of your therapy is getting you involved. Your active involvement may help you to benefit more from your therapy. It may also allow you to spend less time doing physical therapy for your sports injury. One way that you can be more actively involved in your therapy with us is to use supplemental exercises we recommend at home. R.I.C.E. is one type of supplemental, in-home therapy our team may prescribe for you, but you may not know what it is or how it may benefit your sports injury treatment.
How R.I.C.E. helps with your sports injury treatment
At Border Therapy Services, we are ready to help you with sports injury treatment for many types of injuries. We often have student and amateur athletes come into our offices for help with injuries, such as strains, sprains, muscle and ligament tears and bone fractures. We have no problem creating an in-office injury treatment plan that may help to reduce your pain and heal your injury more quickly. However, we’re also likely to ask you to perform some exercises and other treatments at home. These at-home activities may actually allow you to benefit more from your therapy in our office.
One type of at-home therapy that we may ask you to do is R.I.C.E. therapy. This type of treatment has nothing to do with eating rice. It’s actually an acronym for rest, ice, compression and elevation. Resting is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your injury at home. Indeed, rest has been shown to help the body perform its natural healing processes more effectively.
Icing your injury at home is also a very helpful component of our treatment plans. The ice may help to reduce the pain and swelling that may occur from working your injury at our offices.
Compression and elevation of your injury may also work to reduce the amount of swelling you experience. By helping control your pain and swelling with R.I.C.E. therapy at home, you may be able to work harder on your in-office rehab and see progress faster.
